PROBLEM: When you insert or paste a picture and select it, does the picture have a black frame, and can’t be dragged?
 

SOLUTION: Click on Tools > Options > Edit tab; in the bar “Insert/paste pictures as”:  select Square (you can then drag the picture wherever you want to)
PROBLEM: When you try to draw with a tool from the drawing bar, do you get a box “Create your drawing here”?
 
SOLUTION:Click on Tools > Options > General tab; remove the tick from the box: “Automatically create drawing canvas when inserting Autoshapes”
